About 90.1 NBC
FM
Radio
90.1 NBC FM is located on the first floor of our Christian Education/Church
Office building and broadcasts 24 hours each day servicing the
communities of the Canterbury, Rockdale, Kogarah, Hurstville
and Marrickville area. It is run by a team of around 200 volunteers
under the direction of Station Manager, Paul McGrath. Our church
programs are coordinated by Andrew Drylie.
2NBC
had it's beginnings in 1974 when a group of local residents
met to discuss the idea of a community radio station. The group,
from interested people from the Narwee Baptist Church, was led
by Don Jamieson who recognised the tremendous potential of such
a station for the good of the community. After successful test
broadcasts in 1980 and 1981, the group which had incorporated
as a non-profit corporation in 1978 was granted a licence by
the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal in October 1982 to provide
a community broadcast service to the south and inner west suburbs
of Sydney. The Department of Communications gave approval to
commence broadcasting in May 1983 with the call-sign 2NBC and
frequency allocation of 90.1Mhz.
Although
initiated by the team From Narwee Baptist Church, 90.1 NBC FM
has always been run and managed quite separately from the church
as a non-profit organisation.
The
programs on 90.1 NBC FM also reflect the diverse population
it serves. 90.1 NBC FM broadcasts programs in 14 different languages
serving the many cultures in southern Sydney.
